Services We Offer

Functional Integration® lessons are the hands-on sessions that operate as a neurological conversation between the practitioner and the student. We work with the student to understand how old habits affect his or her functioning, looking both at what makes things easier (or more fun) and what detracts from the pleasure or efficiency of a movement. This approach is pertinent for a wide variety of students, from people with pain from old injuries (and the habits that grew out of them), to high functioning athletes or musicians, to anyone who has noticed some developing stiffness with the passing of time. The Feldenkrais Method® has also proved helpful to people with a neurological challenge, be it MS, a stroke, or some other life circumstance.

Awareness Through Movement ® classes provide an opportunity to explore movement via verbal instruction from the teacher(s) and to become aware of how one uses oneself in performing common movements such as walking, reaching, sitting, and turning. Exploring the ingenious movement sequences created by Moshe Feldenkrais with curiosity and awareness fosters the re-discovery of long-forgotten movement patterns like those we knew as children. Students begin to discover ways to make day-to-day movements easier, smoother, more pleasurable, and more efficient by letting all parts of themselves contribute their proportional share to the movement. Feldenkrais designed the method to "make the impossible possible, the possible easy, and the easy elegant." The changes a student experiences, while originally accessed via movement, may generalize to all aspects of life.

Special Workshops can be designed for your group around a topic of interest (e.g. bellydancing, singing, running). These focused half-day or full-day workshops provide attendees opportunities to explore ways to make the movements of interest become more an expression of the whole self. Workshop fees are negotiated with Karen and can be spread out among your group as you desire.
